To time myself during the test, I thought I might use the bevel on the outside of my watch to track how many minutes have passed (line up 0 with the minute hand at the beginning of each section). However, turning the bevel makes a clicking sound.

Am I likely to get "in trouble" with the test supervisor for making this noise with my watch in between sections?

Anyone else have any timing suggestions?

that's exactly what i did when i took it. the small clicking noise my bevel made as i turned it to keep time for myself was barely noticeable as everyone in the room rustled their booklets to begin each section. it helped me tremendously.

At the beginning of every section I just set my watch to 12:00. That way I knew for sure how much time had passed without worrying about calculating anything or panicking because I didn't reset the bevel or anything like that.

Just make sure you don't watch it obsessively. If you are thinking too much about the precise amount of minutes you're spending on each question, it may break into your "what the hell is the right answer???" focus.

I bought a HUGE men's watch from Target - the bevel/dial was large enough to turn quickly. I also set mine to 25 minutes past the hour so I always know how much time I have left.

i used the bevel on my watch. it makes that ticking egg timer kinda noise when i turn it but not too loud. i made sure i did it at the end of every section when people are kinda breathing that sigh of relief and shuffling paper, turning pages etc. if you do it under your desk and palm the face of your watch it pretty much blocks out any kind of noticable noise. but in any case, right after each section during that quick 15-30 second down time is fine.

It's just a fact that any noise you make when you're trying not to be noticed is going to sound 10x louder than it actually is.

I also used the re-set to 12:00 method between each section. If you're worried about having to do it between each section, just do it once on a practice exam and you'll be fine. You get into the routine of "time up"-reset-ready to go, in no time flat.

If you want to do this, just make sure you get a watch with a big thumb dial on the side. I can't grab onto most of them (at least with ease), but I was able to find one with a large face, distinct numbers, and a large thumb dial on the side at Walmart for like $5-10.

On a side-note, I was absolutely astounded at the number of people who were not using a watch at all!

Unfortunately I dont have walmarts where I am. I bought a big watch with a big thumb dial and bevel from a guy on the street, hopefully it wont break !

I forgot to reset my watch before two of the sections. I had been timing myself enough during practice exams that it didn't seem to make a difference. Just train yourself to know what 35 min feels like.

what is a bevel and where can i get a watch with one?

I have a wrist watch with a stop watch mechanism that I can enable with the press of one button, and turn off with that same button, doesn't make much noise. They shouldn't have a problem with that right? (it's all analog nothing digital)
