There will definitely be schools following H's example, but according to Spivey, it's unlikely to happen before 2019 because of ABA etc.Alexandros wrote:Make sense.34iplaw wrote:Well, it all depends on a lot of moving parts, and there are really too many moving parts to know for certain.Alexandros wrote:He did?dj9i27 wrote:This... Will be interesting to watch. I don't mind being 50 grand or so before CoL in debt because that's a year payback living frugal. problem is my gpa isn't great sub 3.5 greater than 3.0, but lots of folks with my numbers or close have gotten serious money.oopsu812 wrote:
Yeah, a named scholarship would probably get me to consider most T13s. Even if I couldn't find love, I'd still have 0 debt (I'd have debt in Canada no matter what), and I'd be (hopefully) able to make a US Biglaw salary for a little while before going back with my pockets lined... Damn, you're putting ideas into my head.
Explain yourself, Meme Master.
That said, I think it's safe to assume the LSAT will be important in rankings for quite some time. Let us say all law schools start taking the GRE seriously but the LSAT is still critical for rankings. Either way, it seems like LSAT medians will likely keep some weight for some time, correct? I think this disincentivizes people to take the LSAT heavily, particularly among those with high GPAs that could probably score a 170+.
For example, let us take Alex 2.0 who is applying a year from now where any T14 will take competitive GREs. Alex probably would get a 170+, but why would he even risk it? Take the GRE (an easier test that has more flexibility), and you save the LSAT as a backup in the event you cannot crush the GRE. To me, this seems like totally reasonable calculus, and it is how I would approach it if I were in that position.
Who takes the LSAT? People that can't do well on the GRE (I suspect intelligent people who cannot do well on the GRE will not fare well on the LSAT). Number of LSAT takers drop and fewer high scorers.
Ultimately, I think reverse splitters are the people that are absolutely screwed by this change. They are just a GRE applicant that screws your LSAT median. Splitters will be hurt as well, but a lot of that depends on whether there is a decline in the number of people that take the LSAT.
I'm guessing/hoping that the LSAT will retain importance and many people will continue to take it rather than the risky move of a GRE, and it'll just be some time before any major changes happen. plz
Also, re - a year from now (say 2018) any t14 will accept a competitive GRE - Is this a thing or an example?

Re: The Official September 2017 Study Group
And I mean - think about it. Say your GPA is 3.85 or whatever. You think you have a solid chance at H/t14 since you're near median. You know H/t14 is accepting GREs now in place of the LSAT, but there is little to no information on how that will impact admissions. Do you apply with a GRE or try to get a solid LSAT?dj9i27 wrote:we also should keep in mind that just because the ABA MIGHT say it is okay for LS to take the GRE, it doesn't mean that they will.
If I were this person, I'd play it safe and try to get a solid LSAT, rather than face the unknown that is applying with only a GRE. I don't like being optimistic about these things but I think/hope it'll be a few years for there to be any major effect.

I just feel like the GRE tests you on a lot of stuff that is completely irrelevant to law school. Just on principle it frustrates me.

What are some good work out songs? I need something that's really fast to get me going, so far the only thing that gets me going like crazy is Enrique Iglesias' "I Like It".
Google Music' work out playlist is not cutting it for me, everything is waay too slow!!

The t14 is just an example or hypothetical, but I don't see a reason why the other T14s won't follow suit. Whether Harvard does it to game their medians or not, other schools most certainly can.Alexandros wrote: Make sense.

Oh - not that I've heard of, but I wouldn't be surprised if a large number of schools started to take a non-trivial number of GRE students relatively quickly.Alexandros wrote:Just wanted to make sure there wasn't some kind of "ALERT: Any and all t14s will now be accepting competitive GRE's in Alex's cycle" thing that I missed.34iplaw wrote:The t14 is just an example or hypothetical, but I don't see a reason why the other T14s won't follow suit. Lots of gym goers here? I'd love to ask someone a couple questions (perhaps pm)? I'm getting a gym membership starting April, and am a bit at a loss as to how to achieve goals. I've always been a cardio person, so I know nothing about strength training.

I really want something with a fast beat/chorus because it makes me faster-quicker-crazier in the gym.

I used to only do cardio/dance classes, but in order to achieve results you need to mix in weight/strength training. It's also about living a healthy life (eating healthy with one cheat day a week but not going to crazy in those days), and getting enough sleep.oopsu812 wrote:Lots of gym goers here? here are some recs that fit that criteria:ngogirl12 wrote:I've never listened to metal, I'll check it out though and see if it works.proteinshake wrote:do you mind metal? if not then maybe Afrojack, Tiesto, and Alesso would be some good options.ngogirl12 wrote:What are some good work out songs? I mean I also don't think Alex falls into a UGPA camp (AFAIK) where he would be a splitter or reverse splitter by any real means. I don't think changes will necessarily come into play that quick in any huge way. I'm more just postulating a world in which the top schools take both the GRE and LSAT.dj9i27 wrote:I feel like 34 and I are in somewhat different camps. I think no serious GRE implications will be taken into affect for at least 3 years. If not... fuck.
I guess I could apply next fall but I really felt like the higher GPA and gap year/mitigated KJD status would be worth sitting out, but maybe not.
