What LSAC has to say: http://lsac.org/jd/lsat/day-of-test

[Perhaps this thread might be a catch-all for questions about details of the testing conditions.]

"Expect the test day to cover up to seven hours."

Eh? The total test time is 6 times 35 minutes, or 3.5 hours. What else might happen to consume another 3.5 hours?

Every test center is different. Your check in may be 15 mins, or it can be an hour, or even more. Then the time your proctors wait to begin is taken into account. That's why they give the time range

Total time testing 6x35 (four real sections, 1 experimental, 1 written). 3.5 hours. Add 15 minute break, which realistically stretches to 20-25 as all papers are collected, people drift back in after 15, all papers re-issued. Check-in means one or two people checking names, ID and photo for 100+ people. Then you get assigned to rooms, which people walk to slowly. Then about a page of A4 is read aloud slowly, then you have to write out the certifying statement. Then you have any questions, the rush of people going to the bathroom, and people coming back.

"Seven hours" is really to cover their bases. In my experience, it takes about five.

That definitely sounds like an exaggeration. I remember getting there right before 8 AM, and getting out a little after 1 PM. But you never know how long it might take at certain testing centers, or if some issue came up. I think they're just trying to be safe with that number.

The first time I took the test, we all got there for an 8:30 start time, but we didn't start the test until after 10 am. So sometimes things just go really slowly. I think I got out around 2 or 2:30? (I was STARVING.)
