i am wondering how close to the upcoming test would it be recommended to use the most recent tests to practice (i.e 2015 to current) a week before the official test or a month..when is the most appropriate time or is there one.

I began to add them in to my practice tests about a month before. I was doing 3 tests a week. I took one of the newest ones like 6 weeks before, to make sure I was performing well on newer tests, and that I could adapt to anything different if not. Then began doing 1 newer test a week for the next two weeks or so, before moving completely over to them and finishing the latest test a week before the test, so I could spend that week correcting anything major.

I'd say the month before would be a good time to start using them, so you can get a sense of what the "style" of the most recent tests are like with enough time to get used to them. The week before the test should be spending brushing up on/maintaining your skills, and getting plenty of rest, so I wouldn't wait that long.
