Hi all, can anyone give me a few words of wisdom in regards to Logical Reasoning Diagramming questions. I know all the rules however it seems whenever I am diagramming I either mix up the Sufficient or Necessary for the word 'only' or with words that have no keywords to determine which is which I either miss them entirely and therefore can not draw an appropriate conclusion. Any tips or tricks that help you is welcomed as I feel the more information I get the better I will be able to fully understand how to tackle these more effectively.

Well that's a big question to answer, and one that I have been slowly working through myself, but I'll take a shot at it.

The sufficient condition indicates that the necessary condition must occur.

The necessary condition's occurrence is required in order for the sufficient condition to occur.

For example:

All dogs are mammals.

If you are a dog, then you MUST be a mammal, but if you are a mammal, then you are not necessarily a dog. You could be a rabbit, a bear, or manbearpig.

D-->M

Contrapositive: If you are not a mammal then you are not a dog
~M-->~D

Being a dog is sufficient because it indicates that you must also be a mammal.

Another example: Every car is blue. Ask yourself which is which. If it's blue is it necessarily a car? Or if it is a car then is it necessarily blue?

Join the struggle bus. I haven't done much LR yet, but my plan is to drill the shit out of all the conditional LR questions until it's (hopefully) second nature
