RC is what screws me up, I'm still averaging -8/-9. Maybe on a good day, I might pull a very rare -5, but I think this happened maybe twice so far.

What can I do? Please don't tell me to drill RC, I've been doing nothing but drilling RC for a month now from PT 1 all the way to PT 70, and it hasn't doen crap to improve my score. I think there is something fundamentally wrong with my approach.

What are you guys doing or have done to improve your RC score? I prefer to get responses from people who used to struggle in RC but are now doing significantly better.
What's your approach to RC currently? How do you approach the passage, and how do you handle the questions? Lots of re-checking the passage once you get to the questions? Any particular subjects that get you? How are you on timing?
I don't do many mark-ups. I underline only the main points of each paragraph, square around names, and put asterisks next to the author's opinion. By the time I finish reading the passage, I have a good understanding of the flow of passage and how each paragraph relates to another.

I almost always get Main Point and Main Purpose questions right. I also don't have much problem with context and role questions ("the expression x most clearly refers to...", "The author discusses x primarily in order to..."). But I always struggle with Detail Q's (what is mentioned or identified by the author) and the Inference Qs. I don't think timing is the issue because I get these questions wrong when I do these untimed, so I think there is something I'm missing.

Timing isn't a big issue, I rarely ever struggle to finish any particular passage in time.
When you drill RC, are you spending time BRing the passages? Lots of people neglect BR for RC and that's why they never improve.
For every single RC passage I had even slight trouble with, I write out a summary of what each paragraph is saying and then go through each and every question slowly, untimed. I knock out every single answer choice until I know 100% certain that the answer choice is correct. For RC, POE is key; there will be some answers where you're like "how the hell is that right." But there are 4 answer choices that are clearly wrong. Every time. The more you go through these questions and their answer choices, the more familiar you'll get with wrong answer choices. And that's the key. There are very few, if any, questions where I'll choose the right answer and move on. I get to the right answer through POE and its helped me a ton with accuracy.
BRing RC is boring as hell. It requires a lot of patience but I think you'll see lots of improvement if you just take 15 passages and do them untimed. Makes sure you get max 2 wrong per each RC section. Spend as much time as you need to get to the correct answer, and every time you get a question wrong throw a dollar out onto the street or something like that lol.
I was someone who was at -8,-9 at RC and now I'm at like -3,-4 on RC. My problem is with timing, I'm a pretty slow reader so I just don't have the time to properly go through all the questions. I always though am able to correct those questions on BR. If you're not struggling with timing, I think you'll be in great shape if you really BR thoroughly. Good luck!!

So I BR'ed PT 77, which I took earlier today.

170
LR: -5
RC: -3
LG: -3

Amazingly, I got game 3 100% right. But I still don't know how; all my answers were basically "uhh I guess?!" and I couldn't solve the whole thing on BR. At the low end of my PT range, so not a total disaster, but could easily have been worse

You should be happy, nice to know that worst case scenario you still end up with 170.

Yeah you're right. Just don't feel like it was the worst case scenario because I guessed on game 3. But I'll just review the hell out of it.

Anyone know if mylsn.info is accurate? Playing around with some of the numbers and I like what I'm seeing, but it seems too optimistic.

I actually found the last passage in RC to be gnarly hard. I tanked it during the real exam and then when I recently retook the test, my overall performance improved everywhere except that passage. Apparently I still don't get it.
That third game was fucking bonkers, yeah. Guessed on just about every question! But I thought some of the LR was verrrry tricky, too. More so than I'm used to. And yeah the last RC passage was tough, though I thought the others were cake.
how could one not find the P3 difficult? when i sat for the actual test in dec, i thought p3 was the hardest passage i had done ever, no exaggeration. i had no clue about the psg even after spending about 7-9 mins on it. otoh i found p4 to be very routine and somewhat easy.

Guess it just goes to show, different strokes for different folks. I found p3 pretty easy because the material is of interest/sort of adjacent to my academic background.

And I don't know about p4, the passage itself is not the hardest ever, but the questions were killer to me with limited time.

If anyone is looking to practice a game similar to PT77 g3, I recommend PT16 g4. Similarly annoying yet easy-ish. Good to practice such games.

Nice, I'll have to check that out. One of the things I regretted the first time around was not preparing adequately for any curveballs, because I was so concerned with knocking out as many PTs as possible. Not gonna make the same mistake again.

I had an ex-bf who lived in Boston, so I visited him about 6 times a year for two years, and I loved it. Very pretty.
Yeah. Cambridge and Somerville are even lovelier than Boston IMO.
Cambridge is dope. I'm moving near harvard square from Lexington on the same weekend as the June LSAT.

I moved to the greater boston area (if lexington counts as that) like 10 months ago and its really great

Need some help here:
Have the following PTs remaining from 50+: 50,53,57,59,60,62,64,65,74,75,76,77
Would like to leave two of the 70s tests fresh for a potential retake. Tomorrow I'm taking 75 and I'll take 77 on Sunday. Would like to take 1 more after that. Which one from the above would you suggest I take?

Just goes to show there's no objective criteria for difficulty. As it happens I actually got 1 question on P3 wrong, but I didn't find it quite so difficult because I'm a history major and I'm used to that kind of discussion. Everyone comes into the test with different strengths.

76, and leave the 60s for your retake. Open to being overruled by shrewder TLSers though.

Need some advice here:

With < 2 weeks to go, my LG scores are still ranging from -2 - -7. I can't point to a specific type of game that gives me trouble and my set up is usually correct as well. I have solved some of the hardest games correctly and have, also, gotten blown up by some easy ones. My mistakes are usually because I didn't split the gameboard, misread a rule/question, or simply made a mistake copying the gameboard.

Does anyone have any tips/suggestions? Should I just be drilling lg until the test? (I have spent 90% of my study time on the games so far and have done almost all of them from pt30 and up). I am doing well on LR & RC( -0 - -4) so I really need to nail down these LG.

Hi guys,

I was wondering how your PT schedules are like for the final week before the June exam. Specifically are you guys going to take an exam on June 4th? June 5th? Some have recommended taking an exam almost everyday in the last week leading up to the exam to be dialed in. While a past tutor of mine, who wrote a 180, said he personally took three or 4 days off before his test date and recommended that I do the same.

I for sure would not take an exam every day in the week before the test, or even close to that. But that's just me.

I want to do some timed sections on Saturday before the test, I think that'll be my last prep day. Probably won't take a full exam.

My plan is PT Sunday, drill Monday, PT Tuesday, PT Wednesday, break Thurs-Sat, drill Sunday, take test Monday

I'm planning on doing one PT tomorrow, two over the long weekend, and maybe one on June 4. On the 5th I'll probably do a section or two, but nothing major.

You have to consider what you think will help you most. If you still need to work on stamina, taking a handful of 5-section PTs would be the way to go. If you're struggling with LG, do a couple LG sections every day between now and the test (while sprinkling in the occasional LR/RC so you can keep your chops up). At this point you're not going to make a huge jump in score--but you can still notch up a point or two if you work efficiently for the next two weeks.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
