How many times?

Some background: I am a undergrad pre-law student at a private college in Manhattan. Apart from school, I hold down a part-time job for money, and this summer I was a legal intern at a national think tank based out of New York.

I was speaking with a fellow legal intern who is a law student at Columbia (the think tank I work for usually only hires law students for their legal research), and I spoke to him about how I am preparing for the LSAT. His advice was to take it a maximum of two times, because beyond that, according to him, more than two times is seen as too desperate. Curious as to the forum's wisdom on this?

I took it 4 times; it didn't hurt me.

If you turn in a 170+, most schools not named Yale or Stanford (and even that may be pushing it) won't care what take it is.
