By affordable I mean under $800..I work FT and cannot attend a formal classroom setting. Can anyone give recommendations and provide examples of how much in points were you able to jump to?

Why not self study? It's more affordable and I learned significantly more during self-studying than my class. I regret taking the class.

If you MUST get a prep company, I would recommend 7Sage.

I've done a class (Testmasters), online program (7sage and kind of LSATMax because I got it for free), and self study.

The Testmasters class did help a bit, but I think that self studying has done the most for me. The online programs are nice in that they have videos explaining the different sections/drills, but I think that using the free explanations available was plenty sufficient (free 7sage LG explanations, free Manhattan LR explanations, and if you need it the free Velocity RC explanations).

ETA: I do think how you would study best depends on you, though. If you think you need a course to get you going, then maybe that's best for you. In which case I would suggest 7sage as an online option.

gonna break from the self study choir -- I tried it and realized I needed a little more structure than I was able to provide myself. I used a company called Nexus LSAT. It is out of your price range now (it was much cheaper then than it is now). The lower end course costs about 1100 now, and the upper end 1600. If that is a hard rule you can stop reading here :p.

The experience was great, though. Personalized tutoring hitting all of my weaknesses, an accessible online experience (through dropbox and email) and a course flexible enough to meet schedule changes while rigid enough to keep me on track, and accountable. I went from a 163 diagnostic to a 177 (albeit on my third take). When my first two takes didn't pan out, my tutor continued to teach me, free of charge, for an extra 5 months - there was and remains a score increase guarantee. If you don't increase by the stated minimum, the course cost and your test fee are refunded. Website is here
