Greetings,
I will be taking the October LSAT.
My prep course starts in about 3 weeks and it ends about 1 week prior to the test date.
What self study is recommended until the class starts?
By that I mean any work books or online apps or sites that can help.
I would like to try to fit in study time whenever possible, (commuting on the train, idle hours at work and at home, etc.)

I'm new to all this so I hope you can give me some pointers.

Powerscore LG Bible above all else. I would also pick up LSAT by Type so you can start figuring out what types of questions you're strong/weak on.
