I'm about to start studying for my LSAT and I was wondering if it was best to write in my books or not write in them so I can have a clean slate when I start reviewing later?

I wrote in my practice books.
The reviewing part should consist mainly of drilling with Cambridge packets and blind reviewing PT's.

No, I have several spiral notebooks to write my answers from practice materials. I started off by writing in them using a pencil and then tried erasing after the fact--way too difficult and smudgy. Just use a separate notebook so you can write as much as you please and feel confident about doing the questions again later.

PDFs and photocopies.

no... In the Manhattan LR book, for example, I just write answers on a post it note and leave it there so if I ever go over it, I can compare the results.

Write in pencil and erase drills if I need to redo them. I did take notes and review them every time I drill a specific game type/LR question, though.

What I wish I had done from the beginning....cut the pages out...make electronic copies of each individual group...never run out of study material.

Some copyright infringing assholes said they found pdfs of every LSAT on the internet for free on some kind of peer to peer network, but that is totally unethical and no one here would ever recommend that.

I suggest that you scan the books onto your computer or buy PDF version, so you can print them when you want to use.
I find this very helpful.

The LGB, of course, has a review section at the end with the games reprinted. Still, I'll be recording most of the chapter-end exercises in a separate notebook. Those are more to get the feel for diagramming, making inferences and so forth; the real drudge work, for me, will be on the PT's, etc.

Edit: For the basic exercises, like setup drills or question types, it'd be just fine to write in the books I think.

This is in part why Cambridge is so credited. You get everything in PDF form and can print it as much as you would like. Also the organization by question type is without a doubt one of the most useful things in your prep arsenal.

As for the books, I wrote in them in pen. Why not? Any of the Qs you can review with Cambridge, so I don't see the point of not writing in them.
