Quick question, If I am currently registered for the September LSAT, can I register for the December test now as well (in-case I decide not to take in September, for the sake of securing my test site of choice)?

Yes, you certainly can! You'll just have to pay the full registration price, but it could be worth it to secure a great test center that is convenient for you. The best (and most conveniently located) test centers tend to get booked up quickly.

I don't think they get booked like 6 months early though....lol. I waited until I got my scores to consider a retake and my "best" test center was still available, but I guess it could depend on where you are

While we are on the subject, how detrimental is it to take the December exam vs the September exam?

If you mean in terms of applying, not really detrimental. The boost you get from an earlier application vs a higher score in December is non existent.

Thank you kindly. I only ask because I heard some people say that if you take the December test it is rougher because there may not be as many seats available at school X as if you applied earlier which in turn could result in losing out on getting in.

Most schools are rolling admissions so what you heard is technically true. If you have the exact same application submitted in September as opposed to December, there is probably a tiny boost. However, like bombay said if taking in December (retake or you need more time to study) makes you perform better, then that by all means outweighs that little boost from applying earlier.

Yea there might not be as many seats available, but its not like they admit 90% of the class before December lol. With declining applications and such too, schools seem to have taken a bit longer to get decisions out this past cycle so I wouldn't worry about it too much if I were you. Best of luck!
