Confused about what to use for practice material

Hi all,

I'm just starting to study for the Sept. LSAT and have read through all of the top study guides here (PithyPike, TLS1776), but feel overwhelmed by the dense amount of information provided, and am confused about what to use for practice material. It seems that from the posts I've read, most people here use prep tests for their practice material.

What if I just wish to concentrate on certain sections (LG&LR) and don't want to be taking a 4-hour long test every other day (that's recipe for a burnout)? Do I just focus on doing the LG and LR sections of a preptest? Won't I run out of prep tests really quickly?

To give some context to my confusion, when I took the GMAT, everyday I would drill down on specific problems using practice books, which featured independently created questions that weren't on GMAT practice tests. It seems that the LSAT study method is a bit different, since the only practice problems are questions drawn from actual tests.

Help? :?:

I would use PTs 1-40 for drilling purposes and then use the tests after that for timed PTs. Buy the Cambridge bundles, Manhattan guides, use 7sage if struggling on games and powerscore maybe. Btw how did you do on the GMAT?

I scored in the 99th percentile for the GMAT. My memory's a bit hazy, but it was a 760/770. I chose the correct study guides (Mahattan for the win!) and had a solid study schedule for the GMAT, which factored significantly in the scoring. I want to replicate those factors for the LSAT. People underestimate how much studying the wrong books can screw up one's test-taking ability.

Do the Manhattan guides have separate questions or are they borrowing questions from the prep tests?

Nice score. Yeah, they use the same questions from the prep tests. The LSAT Trainer is great too. The author of it is usually available on this forum.

Thank you for taking the time to answer Clyde Frog!

If the Manhattan guides use the same questions from the tests, won't that screw up my preptest-taking since I would've seen and done some of the questions beforehand? Also, when you say Manhattan guides, do you mean Manhattan Prep guides or Manhattan LSAT guides? I get two different vendors when I search on Amazon.

On a sidenote, prepping for the LSAT is wayyyy more expensive than prepping for the GMAT.

They use pretty much all pre-pt 40 questions so it shouldn't affect you at all. There are almost 80 lsat PTs out there so you'll have more than enough material to do timed PTs with. Check out Daily Doubles guide on here also.
