my progress? Or should I not even worry about that and just focus on drilling solely? or just do a section and see how that goes?

You need to setup a schedule. I would first do a Diagnostic Test to see what your baseline score is. You have a lot of time to prepare, which is great! But, you don't need to burn yourself out on PT's right now.
I would suggest do a diagnostic, and then one or two a month for now. Focus on your study material and drilling. Really get deep into your studies and yourself. Figure out all the problems. Once you get closer, you want to start PTing more and start getting use to all the questions and the 5 hour sessions.
It's hard to really give you a solid answer but to sum it up, the closer you get to the test date the more you should PT.

Don't even think about doing PT's till Mid October.
Drill drill and drill.
Trust me.
Do every LR and LG question up until like PT 45.
Then may you PT.

No need for a diagnostic.
It's pointless to know how well you will do without studying.

How is it pointless? Your strengths and weaknesses dictate how you study (i.e. what materials you need), and you cannot identify your strengths and weaknesses without first taking a diagnostic. Consider the following: I take a diagnostic and score -15 on LG, -6 on LR, and -3 on RC. With these scores, it seems pretty obvious I need to pick up a copy of the Powerscore LG Bible and start drilling. What I don't need to do, however, is take a comprehensive course (with 7sage, or velocity, or something like that) because most of RC and LR I already know intuitively.
I might be willing to say that taking a LG section without studying is pointless (because almost everyone is going to bomb their first LG section and because it is such an easily learned skill), but I think knowing how well you will fair on the LR and RC sections can help determine how you need to study (length, materials, etc).

hey guys -
i probably shoulda gave more background info .. i did a diagnostic last summer (i ve been studying since last summer, did on and off during my undergraduate year, but mostly off) and now back it so I had to shake some rust off.
