How Many Times Would You Take The LSAT If You Could?

This is a question I'm curious about but haven't found much luck with the search engine.

If one could take the LSAT each administration would that cause adcomms to average again? How would this affect student's prep?

This has some application in real life. I've seen folks on LSN with 5/6 takes. Would you take up to 6 times over several years if that's what it took to achieve a score for your target schools? Or is there a point where moving on with your life is the right answer.

If I don't like this cycle and re apply I would be eligible for a 5/6th take.

What would you do?

Some things happen for a reason. If you're not coming close to scoring X score after three times, then you're just not a good LSAT taker. Find a better use of your talents.

I was willing to take it one more time before I acknowledged I needed to put my head to some other use. So three times. Then again, there are plenty of people on here who succeeded with a fourth or fifth take. So I guess it all depends on the degree to which you are willing to torment yourself.

I don't think this is always true. If you previously had a misconception your first/second time around and wasted these tests then you may need to take some time to study and take a third or fourth time.

In general, I thinking waiting until you've done your research and put enough time into studying it should only take one or two times. I would wait until you are serious about studying 4-6+ hrs a day to finally take the test.

This is about as individual as a question gets.

I know that:

1.I won't go LS unless I get into one of my target schools
2. The LSAT is learnable, and I'm dedicated and smart enough to learn it well
3. I want this (a legal career in my areas of interest) very much

For me, pushing these three together means I'd take it 10 times if I really thought that I needed to.

With that said, I sure as hell don't want to take it more than once.

Retake if you think your score to increase. Are you PTing higher than your scores? Do you review missed questions and understand why you missed them? You've already taken it four times already and are unhappy with your scores, so whatever you were doing isn't working. Make sure you can commit to studying more/taking prep course/whatever you haven't tried in the past before signing up again.

I'll only take it once and I'm taking it in June 2014. I'll score a 170+ and I'll forever put this test out of my mind.

That's the attitude everyone should have. No excuses.

I see no reason not to retake unless you hit a 175+. This is because you are nearly guaranteed to do better on the retake given the odds and there isn't really a harm in having a small drops even if it were to happen. I take in June 2014 but I am probably still going to retake if I get my goal score of 172. According to stats compiled by the LSAT blog, you have a 50% chance of improving on the second take.

I'd personally never take the LSAT more than three times, coincidentally that is how many times I took it. However, I was happy with my 2nd score, but retook for the 3rd time for scholarship purposes.
