A 168 on your first timed PT is very good, especially if you've only been studying for a few weeks. Prioritize getting LG to -0 every time. Print out all of the games from PTs 20-40 and do them over and over. Bringing the LR score up will be difficult this close to the test — try to drill question types you know you struggle with.

If you're really set on UChicago, don't be afraid to sit out this cycle and prep hard for June 2014 if you're not where you want to be by December.

Was your 168 timed/test conditions? If yes, that is exceptional for a first test score after a week of studying, and you really shouldn't have any difficulty getting a high score. You may not be able to get there by December though.

Dude, whaaat? That's an excellent score for an early PT. Those last several points will come harder, but they are definitely doable. What you need to focus on is mastery. Lots of timed PTs (with 5 sections, not 4), and reviewing, along with drilling/researching and trying new strategies for the question types that give you the most trouble.

For LR, I'd recommend the Manhattan LR book, it's much better than the LR Bible (I've read both, and Manhattan brought me from -4 to -1).

The 168 is kind of ridiculously great for a first PT. Congrats. And it totally can be improved upon in a month.

How much is hard to say though. For someone consistently PTing at a 168, with demonstrated weaknesses and all that, I think a month would only bring a few points, for the most part. But since you have only taken once, I wonder if there will be some nice bump after taking a few PTs an getting a feel for it.

Also remember, for a lot of test takers, the real thing, at least the first time taken, will be a bit lower because of stress and nerves.

If you're starting at a 168, you obviously have it in you to score 173++++. With your GPA, if you can't get there in December, I would definitely really seriously consider waiting a cycle.

Most people use Cambridge LSAT drill sets for PTs 20-40 arranged by question type.
