do you have to wear your watch? I'd much rather have it sitting on my desk

Laying it on your desk is allowed.

Yep, no problems with laying it on the desk.

Heck, when I took the LSAT the first time the proctors didn't even seem to care about watches. There was a girl in the row ahead of me with a digital watch laid right on her desk, the proctors walked by multiple times without saying a word. Of course this same proctor was also more interested in talking on her phone.

Thankful for this as well. The extra weight and extra nerve-sensations from having to wear the watch would be quite distracting on the test if one did not correct for these conditions during practice beforehand.

(actually serious - at least in my case the watch does begin to feel significantly heavy after wearing it for a while, as I'm not used to wearing watches normally, as well as often feeling itchy too)

also, does anyone have any recommendations for a watch that doesn't make a ticking sound? i know this sounds super neurotic, but i've noticed during my PTs that the noise can be a distraction for me especially in a quite environment.

I can't vouch for any specific brand, unfortunately all the analog wrist watches I've seen (heard) that are absolutely silent have been in excess of 200$. Hopefully someone else can offer a slightly cheaper alternative.

Some of the LSAT specific watches are supposed to be fairly silent, but it really depends on your sensitivity level. While someone might have to the watch up to their ear, the next person might hear it 3ft away.

My Seiko SKX007 does not make any noise.

ETA: I suspect any of the automatic movement will be silent. I suspect Orient watches would be available for less than the Seiko.

Pretty sure this doesn't have a ticking noise.

180watch is absolutely silent and is worth every cent of the $60 it costs. made timing so much less stressful for me. i think it may be sold out though.
YOUR 180 WATCH IS SILENT???

Maybe I'm just super sensitive, but mine tics when the second hand moves :(. It's really my only big complaint about it.

I have found that using this in my prep has helped tremendously. --LinkRemoved--

No annoying ticking noises and the hands can be set rather quickly if you like to have both hands meet at 12 after a section is done.

It is sold out and I'm beginning to worry : / Just emailed them asking if they'd be restocked before October.

In my limited experience not all 180Watches are created equal. Granted, this was a very, very small sample size (2) but there were noticeable noise and cosmetic differences between the two. I'm fairly sure they were both purchased during the same cycle too (neither were mine).

Anyone have experience with one of these? I'll probably order one today. There's a good amount of face options which is nice. I was thinking about getting one with marks every 8 min 45 to help with games.

I have no experience with that one, but you might want to check out the reviews for it on Amazon, they are.. split, to say the least. (Lots of complaints of quality issues)

Amazon Reviews

EDIT: Actually I am not sure that those are the same watch, they are just really similar.

Pretty sure they are different. I was checking that one out on amazon a couple days ago and decided not to purchase that one because of the horrid reviews. Googled LSAT watch and found the site I posted, whoever runs it takes a certain casio watch and models it to your preferences which I thought was pretty neat.

I have tried the LSAT specific watches and from my experience they were pretty shitty. The watch dial was pretty flimsy and broke on my 1st one and my 2nd one was not very accurate with time keeping (depending on which way your hand was held the minute hand moved the distance of 2 or 3 minutes). I eventually got a Coleman watch with a rotating bezel. The one i ordered is no longer available but this is fairly similar. http://www.amazon.com/Casio-MRW200H-7EV ... bs_watch_1

It is sold out! I have one on hold, I have to wait until late October. Honestly, it's $60 - it's pennies compared to what a good LSAT score is worth.

Maybe it's worth it, but this comparison doesn't make much sense: I doubt the quality of your watch is going to impact your score by more than 1 point. It doesn't get the credit for the full value of a good score.

This is where I bought mine from. I liked being able to decide what the colors and time separations I wanted and I thought the service was great. Little noises don't bother me so I've never noticed ticking but I probably wouldn't to be fair
