A store is creating a window display featuring four hats and three scarves. The only hats being considered are A, B, C, D, E and F; and the only scarves being considered are J, K, L, M and N.

--If A is displayed, then neither B nor L can be displayed
-- B is displayed only if D is displayed
--C cannot be displayed unless J is displayed
--D can be displayed only if K is displayed
--If L is displayed, then M must be displayed
F cannot be displayed unless D is not displayed

If B is displayed, which one of the following is a list of items that could also be displayed?

Note: I ruled out 3 of them; but 2 answers seem to work for me:

[C.] C, L, M
[E.] E, J, M

C) won't work, because it would require too many scarves. The answer lists L and M, so that's two already. The question says that B is displayed, so that forces D to be displayed. D being displayed means that K must be displayed (now we're up to three scarves). But, answer (C) also says that C is displayed, which forces us to display J (now we're up to four scarves). We're only allowed three scarves in the display, so answer (C) isn't a possible list of displayed items.

That is definitely not an official LG, right? I've never seen a game with 11 variables.

It seems like an LG exercise that would be introduced right after you learn how to symbolize complex rules — e.g., unless, without, only if.

Anyone know? I'm curious. Kaplan 180?
