But for the time constraints, I'm confident that I could obtain a 170. What are the best methods that I could employ NOW to build speed for the October test?

Semi-related but after a month into my prepping, I'm realizing how unfair it is that a good number of test takers will be on drugs like adderall. I personally won't take it because I want to know that I got the score without any performance enhancers, but all of the advantages it provides (better short term memory, quicker thinking and longer endurance) are huge for the LSAT.

Is it really that drastic for the PSAT? Seems like a lot could go wrong taking test on any sort of drug.

Keep timing yourself, and keep drilling. I think that speed only comes with a better understanding of the test.
TITCR.

Speed will only come with familiarity and repetition

Most people aren't actually slow, they're inefficient. Work on making sure the way you attack questions is the fastest way, develop the ability to detect patterns and use that to your advantage.
