If one takes the LSAT and gets a low score say below 140, but then takes it again and gets a above a 160....how is that viewed? Do schools still consider the low score? Does one need to write an addendum?, or is getting into a top 20 school out?

Schools only care about your highest score

Well, to an extent. If you go 129, 138, 172, don't expect Columbia or Chicago to ignore that. It doesn't matter much outside the elite schools, especially if your jump isn't that big.

They will definitely want an addendum explaining what happened.

12 point jump, no addendum, hasn't seemed to effect me.
