I like the Staedtler Mars Plastic. You can get 4 for $5 at Staples.
I use these too. They are seriously legit.

Finally, the Palomino Blackwing 602, a revival of the fabled Eberhard Faber Blackwing 602, is a true master's pencil. Palomino earned plaudits for reviving the pencil, listening to the concerns and criticisms of pencil enthusiasts, and redesigning it yet again to even more closely resemble the original Blackwing design. True devotion to pencil craftsmanship.
This sounds like a reading comprehension passage. That would be amazing if the ppl at LSAC included a passage about pencils.

No way. I got a bunch of Mongols on a recent trip to South America. Seriously, the eraser is great. The wood is also very smooth and easy to sharpen. As long as the ones from Amazon are the same model, I think it should be fine.

HAHAHHAHA! You are such a noob. Read your samurai history before getting into this, okay.

The katana became synonymous with the samurai under the Tokugawa Shogunate, a time of relative peace, after their bloodiest wars had already been fought. The samurai's weapon of choice was not the sword, but the spear. Your argument still applies (to the spear though) but you are still an utter noob and your arguments should be discounted (yes, that was ad hominem).

In all seriousness though, we here at TLS leave no stone unturned. That's why we've been discussing pencils for 5 pages. If you don't like it, GTFO.

You guys might also want to consider breaking your pencils in half and sharpening them down, so that if you need to erase, you can decrease the time it takes for the eraser to hit the paper. If I had thought of this before, I might be going to Harvard. But, I'm not going to Harvard bc I didn't think of this before.

That's brilliant. Plus if you break them in half you get double the amount of pencils! Which means you can write twice as much!

Lol. Breaking pencils is a rookie move. Get these Eberhard Faber reproductions:

A few of my coworkers are fans the Alvin Brass Bullet Pencil Sharpner, but personally I do not find it comfortable to use. I prefer the DUX Glass Inkwell Sharpener, as it fits easily and comfortably in my hand, and the jar captures the shavings until I am ready to dispose of them.

ETA: both of the above have nice blades and can fairly easily produce a nicely sharpened pencil.

thanks for the recommendations Haus. the brass bullet looks pretty sexy but not having a trap for the shavings is a deterrent as it would not be usable on test day (without just shaving onto the floor).
I'll give the dux a try

Some online reveiws make comparisons of the 602 to other high end HB/#2 pencils, which would lead me to believe that it is close to HB/#2, and given the improved performance of scantron machines over the last 20 years or so, I would be 98-99% comfortable that this would work fine for the LSAT. Yet, that very small doubt would keep me from using this pencil on the test.

It'll work fine. If anything, it is darker than #2.

This thread is an inquiry into what pencil is best to use on game-day.

I used a Staples pencil and scored a 177.

I'm just a baller like that.
