A good mechanical watch fits the bill, but they're not exactly cheap.

I don't know how picky you are with the ticking sound, but this watch is basically silent for me unless I press my ear up against the face of the watch (just did that for this thread lol). It's cheap on Amazon and it's the model chosen for some watches specifically modified for use on the LSAT (such as http://lsatwatch.webs.com/). They have a similar testimony as me regarding the loudness of the ticking: "Oh and most importantly it's SILENT on the ticking, you can ONLY hear the ticking if you literally press your ear against the watch (unless you have bionic dog ears perhaps?)"

I very highly recommend the 180 watch. I used it for 2 LSATs and countless practice tests. Does it tick? Yes, but it is VERY VERY quiet. Unless your room is completely silent with absolutely no white noise, you will not hear it. The great part about the watch is that you can reset the second hand with the minute hand after each section and when it ticks, it's only every two seconds.

With AC going and other people shuffling paper/pencils/breathing you won't hear the tick sound at all. In practice, with just a ceiling fan on low I don't hear the tick.

They also offered a buyback program for the last administration wherein you could sell your watch back for like $20-25, quite a deal.

Kanye claims that "rollees" aka Rolex's don't tick-tock...why not just pick one up and add it onto the cost of law school? Seems like a minimal $5,000 expense in the big picture, right?
