Hi, can someone explain why D is the right answer? What is the "assumption" they mention in the answer choice?

Thanks!

The assumption that the psychologists make is that their report would be able to accurately measure what people's psychological states were in the past. But because "it's not clear" that people are able to recollect their previous psychological states, the psychologists' claim is undermined.
