I took the Lsat in june 2011 got a 162, i haven't done anything lsat related since, i want to start studying again now for june 2013 and am aiming for a 170+, since its been so long since i've studied should i approach it like first time studying or some other way

You'll have to re-learn certain concepts anyway, so you might as well treat it as if you haven't studied before. The format has changed a bit, as well (I know - June '11 wasn't that long ago) so take into account shifts in logic game design and question word choice.

There's been minimal changes since 2011 - so few that I don't think it would make much of a difference to anyone other than a 175+ scorer or a teacher of the LSAT.

To OP - definitely start from scratch. At worst, you'll be reviewing stuff you already know, which isn't a waste of time.
