(OCT 2011, SECT 3, #11)

The correct answer is E, which I understand the logic for. But, I don't see why B is wrong (the one I picked).

Thanks.

Thanks.

You should remove this. The reason why B is wrong is because the guy who rejected the argument didn't do so because Sigerson gave an inadequate argument. He rejected the proposal using an Ad Hom attack. HE cited the reason they should reject the proposal due to Sigerson doing what his proposal was to fight against. The argument to attack the proposal was inadequate but he didn't reject a proposal because Sigerson gave an inadequate argument to support his proposal. Sorry for the confusing wording. tell me if I need to clarify.

Hey everyone I just misrepresented what a person said and impersonated a person. This is a crime.

I see. I actually got that too after thinking about it myself after posting this question.

You're absolutely right. It's a bit of a brain twister to articulate I agree. But I see what you're saying!

The flaw questions are generally made more difficult by the use of trickier answer choices (such as this particular question). After identifying the flaw, one might expect to find an answer choice along the lines of "makes an attack on the character of an opponent"; however, in this question, the correct answer doesn't focus on that aspect of the flaw. Instead, the correct answer focuses on what the arguer did not consider (while committing the ad hominem attack): overlooks that the ethical guidelines would only apply to the future....
