146 Diagnostic...How much improvement is realistic? Forum

I just scored 146 on my first diagnostic and will be taking in October. Doing the Powerscore full-length course and probably supplementing with private tutoring. Top choices are Florida International and Northeastern and have around a 3.0 GPA.

Well to give you some perspective, my initial PT was 147, i am PTing at 154 consistently now off just two weeks of prep (read LG bible and have been doing some LG drills; haven't started with LR/RC yet). Still plenty of time till October.

Take from that what you will. But there were many practice tests in between the two scores.

How many PT's a week should I be doing. I mean their are about 12 weeks until I take the test.

Well...long story short, I don't know without knowing your situation. I'm not a guide (I suggest reading the stickies in this forum. They're great stuff.) Some people will post that they know, but really...they probably don't.

General things you can use to answer those questions:

1. Figure out what you need to learn
2. Figure out how you should learn it
3. Make a plan to learn it
4. Stick with the plan to learn it

It might take you 12 weeks to successfully learn the LSAT, but it might not. It took me three tests to get my good score.

My diagnostic was lower than yours and I consistently scored in the 170s in my later practice tests. Follow the stickies/advice in this forum and you can go as far as you want to. Though I did practically every practice test that LSAC has released.

my diag was a 146.....ended up scoring almost 20 points higher on test day. took a shit ton of studying, practice tests, and checking the TLS LSAT forums daily for motivation and tips. PM me if you have questions.

I really suck at games (just can't get them set up properly) so that 146 was basically with me guessing the whole time.

I think most people would tell you it's not necessarily how many PTs you do between now and then, but what you DO with them. Are you thoroughly reviewing them? Are you analyzing WHY you answered each question (both correct and incorrect) the way you did?
You can take a ton of PTs, but if you aren't deconstructing them it's a waste of time. In short, focus on quality. Good luck!

That's actually good news, games is the most learnable section of the test. Although I teach games based on a completely different approach, Powerscore's approach is pretty good and if you pay attention and do your work there's no reason why you shouldn't improve. As to how much, as other people in this thread have pointed out that really depends on the specifics of your situation. But plenty of people with the right approach and dedicated practice make significant improvements.

I think you can get a high score because once you understand the games your score will drastically go up. This is the one section where you see the most improvement. Really focus on making that as your number one goal. The rest of the sections will go up as well with studying
