Highest June curve?

Post by Helicio » Fri Jun 08, 2012 10:48 am

What's the best curve we can expect for this upcoming test? I usually don't see more than -11 for June.

Hmmm, well, from 2002 to 2009, The average curve was -10

June 2010 was -12. June 2011 was -11. My guess is this year will be -11

So since the curve is usually not as good for June, are we at a disadvantage if we are taking Monday?

No, since the June test is relatively easy

No, since the June test is relative easy
June is easier than normal? That's the first time I've heard that. How do you know?

The scale is determined by the difficulty of the test. Tests that are easier than others are given less forgiving scales to compensate for their relative difficulty level compared to harder tests. The difficulty of the test, of course, is determined by how test takers performed on the individual sections when they were given as experimentals on previous tests.

SOJ wrote a fantastic post (cant find atm) about how the LSAT is not curved against other test takers on any given test, but rather it is equated so that the number of questions you can miss to score a particular score reflects the level of difficulty of the exam.

June tends to be the overall easiest test, and therefore has the smallest margin for error.

Personally, I would rather have a difficult test with a soft curve (Dec 2011 -14) because I do well on difficult questions, but am likely to make a silly error or two over the course of the entire test regardless of the difficulty.

If LSAC decides to give you a stricter curve on Monday, that's because the test-writers believe, based on experimental results and statistical methods, that the test is easier.
