I have seen both and I think Manhattan is a little better. But neither one will get you to -0 on sections. That will just take a ton of work on your friend's part.

How is the Manhattan one different from Powerscore? I currently only have Powerscore, and I'm wondering if I should drop money on the Manhattan one as well.

I have used both. Manhattan is better because their methods are more concise and are more easily applicable. With this being said, both advocate an active engagement with the text.
