This is an interesting question.

This is a resolve the paradox question stem. We want to articulate what the paradox is before we go into the answer choices to pick which one best resolves it.

We know that when this large shopping mall opens, you get a boost to the local economy. No problem there, that would be expected.

And we are told that indeed a large amount of activity is going on.

However, the increase you see in economic activity in the local economy is smaller than the total amount of activity in that mall.

So why is it that these numbers are not matching up? Why is the total amount of economic activity in this mall not showing up as that amount of increase in the local economy?

Usually it is not best to prephrase answer choices to resolve the paradox situations since it usually does not have a high success rate of your answer matching the test writers. But on this one, there is one shining answer in my mind: maybe the activity taking place in the mall is replacing activity elsewhere in the local economy, thus not showing an increase in the local economy.

Answer choices:

A) Does nothing to help address the idea of why we have this imbalance between local economy and mall economy.

B) But the mall is in the local area, this would not address the imbalance.

C) Jobs is not a concern of ours.

D) Shows how the mall can have activity and yet not lead to a substantial increase in the local economy.

E) Does not address the imbalance. Talks about jobs.
