Hey everyone! I recently took a practice LSAT with absolutely no practice beforehand and scored a 155. I am not planning on taking the real test until next June (2013) and wondered if it would be possible to raise my score to the 172-173 range? Also, what have you found helpful in your LSAT preparation? Thanks!

Thank you for the reply I appreciate the advice and congrats on your good score. Ya, I think taking a few more practice tests would be a good idea and then going through the questions to understand them before taking some more. I am considering taking a Kaplan or similar course, but they are just so expensive.

I've heard really bad things about Kaplan; powerscore is def the way to go.

Thanks for the advice! Now that I have spent some time looking through this site I have seen a lot bad things posted about Kaplan. What have you heard that makes it not a very good option? I am definitely not set on taking a Kaplan course the only reason I have even considered them is 1) I took my original diagnostic test with them for free and so I'm more familiar with them than anyone else and 2) they have an office at my university campus. I want to do a lot more research before making the large financial commitment in any direction.

I started off with a 151 diagnostic and took a Kaplan course. honestly, I did learn some things from them but ultimately improved more through self study than through the course.

The materials they provided were awesome though (all the released PT's and different workbooks).

But you can find this stuff in other places so it's not worth the money to buy them if you already have a basic understanding of what the LSAT asks you to do and you have your own way of doing it.

tl;dr you can def find cheaper methods than Kaplan to boost your score.

There are plenty of great self-study plans in the LSAT prep forum. You should do self-study as its less expensive and I believe that its time well spent. Get on it!

As far as taking a course goes, I think it really depends on your instructor. I'm taking a princeton review course, I was going to do powerscore but their classes were like 20 hours per week for a month and a half, and I knew I couldn't do that. I actually really like the course, though I am doing some self-study on games outside of class. My instructor spent 2 years prepping for his LSAT and he's been teaching the course for 3 years, so he actually has some of his own strategies that he shares with us that are extremely helpful. Plus I really felt that I needed the structure that a course gives, and I like having someone to explain a question that I'm not understanding in person. That's just my opinion!
