Probably calling it quits

Should I just call it quits or retake?

I got a 159 on my February LSAT. I've been studying since June and I went over both LG and LR Bibles and even took a 2.5 month course with Testmasters. My diagnostic was a 138, so I did improve a lot. I feel like I gave it all I could and I've been PTing between 155-164 so this was my average PT score or just about. I'm not sure if I want to go through this shit again, and even if I do, the best school I'd end up attending is UC Davis or UC Hastings. On the other hand, I'm not sure if taking out 180k in loans to attend either school is worth it and I've had tons of friends telling me to NOT go to law school over the past year.

Would like some feedback from you all. If I do call it quits, I just want to thank this entire forum for all the help you all gave me. You guys are fantastic and I think the process would've been a whole lot more stressful without TLS. This is a great place for prospective law students.

As I said, I feel like I'm leaning towards quitting as I feel I've hit my cap and I don't know realistically how much more I can improve. This is so weird right now. I kinda cried a bit after I got my score, but part of me just wants to move on already. This all feels surreal.

bro, you improved 21 points.
how much did you expect to improve?
Take a week or two off and start studying for the June test.

When all else fails ask yourself what tupac would do.

Even if you got a 160-180, you'd still have to go to one of those schools AND pay 180k?

See what I did there?

Take a break. While you're at it, survey your outside options. =)

Revisit this question in 2 months.

Yeah. I've actually somewhat anticipated this possibly happening so I started scouting out some options a few weeks ago. I guess I might consider getting a Masters in Social Work/Welfare and becoming a social worker. Seems like a pretty rewarding job.

Tupac actually scored a 175. I don't know what his diagnostic was though.

I believe his diagnostic was a 176, but he was trippin' on sherm when he took it for real.

Is Tupac paraphrasing Thucydides?

Now that I think about it, 187 sounds more realistic for someone like Tupac.

Take it again!

My diagnostic was equally as poor and I ended up with a 159 today too. A 159 is good enough to get into some schools in Canada but I know I can do better. I was prep testing in the 160s as well.

GO ALL THE WAY OTHERWISE DON'T EVEN BOTHER.

I thought he got a 187 on a mothafuckin...

Every day I wake up, and I ask myself,
Is life worth living, or should i retake?

I'd say retake. it can't hurt.

In this day and age I think you should retake. The test is different in real-life (even if you took TestMasters diagnostics). You should get a couple of points just from the experience.

Unless you are dyslexic (in which case you should probably petition for more time), you've only been speaking English for <5 years, or you have an abysmal GPA which would make t-14 abnormally difficult (read, 2.5), I see absolutely no reason you can't study casually until June.

(1) You're not going anywhere this late in the cycle regardless. So you're not postponing life to take in June.
(2) Since you've taken the LSAT once, if you at all feel like you stress-choked during the actual LSAT, those feelings will very likely decrease drastically in June. Which means, in all honesty, you'll probably be closer to 164 if you had to take it again right now.
(3) You have three months to work on your weaker areas. If nothing else, screw around with LG over the next few months over your lunch breaks until you get really good at them, and retake. Even if you only pick up 4-5 questions on the actual, hey, that could be enough to bump you up to a 166~

Be ever-wary of friends that tell you how terrible law school is. I put this kind of talk on par with my military friends that whined about how bad boot camp was. Yeah, there are definitely parts of military life that suck, there are parts later on that will no doubt rock. Figure out what's important to you on the net-benefit level.
