Hey guys, I know there are some older threads about Velocity on here but I just wanted to ask if any of you have been using it for the June LSAT or if you already used it for the February LSAT. Also, it'd be great to get input from people who have used it in past years too.

Used it for the Feb LSAT. I'm a huge advocate. I'd 100% go for it. Comprehensive practice material, great instruction and strategies, and amazing support from Dave. Plus you get 10 practice tests and full explanations from Dave. For the price you can't beat it. I think he was even offering a discount for TLSers which would make it even more of a no-brainer. He got me up from a 164 to a 179 (three times) on practice tests, and I feel that Feb went decently well (hopefully).

Great to hear, how many weeks before your LSAT did you start, and was the 164 your first ever diagnostic test?

Great to hear, how many weeks before your LSAT did you start, and was the 164 your first ever diagnostic test?

Yeah so I actually did something a little different. I had some off time so I plowed through Velocity. I did it in like six weeks (from say middle of November to end of December) which took a few hours a day. From that, I knew that I would have a comprehensive understanding of all the material, and would at least have all the strategies I need. Then for the last six weeks I took the tools that I learned from Velocity and just drilled and did practice tests to really hammer all the concepts cold. So in total, I did about 12 weeks.

And yeah, the 164 was my first test but it was really odd. I got -11 logic games and then got -0 and -2 on my two LR sections. Like I don't think I did better than -2 for the two LR sections combined for the next 30 PT's even after I was consistently scoring in the 170's and had done hundreds of hours of prep. Also, it was just absurd to get -11 on LG. I probably should have started in the high 150's though, I'm guessing.

OK gotchya, cause I know he has several different syllabuses (syllabai?) depending on how long you want to take to finish Velocity. Did you just do the 6 week syllabus then do tons of practice tests on your own?

Exactly. I took the six week schedule but then just moved it up to the day I was starting. I actually wrote out everything on my own calendar. Once I finished I bought a ton of stuff from Cambridge LSAT so I drilled a lot by question type and just tried to do every game ever published, then probably did 2-3 full tests a week.

I absolutely recommend Velocity. It gives you all the structure you could ask for, or the flexability to study at your own pace and in your own way. Dave is not only an LSAT exprt who is extremely accesible, he's also a very passionate teacher. Considering it cost less than half of what I was going to spend on a Testmasters course taught by someone whose highest score was a 171, it's also a great bargin.

It's good to hear that it's pretty much unanimously praised here, would you guys recommend buying the 3 powerscore bibles and going through them first or is that pretty much an unnecessary use of money considering Velocity will cover those topics?

I did LG bible first. But it was only because I felt that the bible wasn't enough for me that I decided to get Velocity. It helped that I had already familiarized myself with the topics so that when Dave went over them they weren't foreign and resonated a bit more with me. But unless you just want to do something like that or use them as a review after you finish Velocity (might be a good idea), I wouldn't feel they are necessary.

Thanks for the help. Do you remember what you got on your first diagnostic test? I just got a 153 on mine and don't know if I can realistically expect a 170. I'm not taking my LSAT until June 2013 though.

Yeah I got a 164. What were your splits by section on your 153? I definitely think you can get it up to a 170 if you start pretty soon.

The hardest thing for me was managing time, it seems like your right up against it almost the entire test.

I would also highly recommend Velocity. A lot of his approaches to the question types are somewhat unconventional, but they are highly effective. I'm not finished with them yet, but I can already see a substantial improvement just in the question types I've covered. He's also very entertaining, so it's a bit of a pick-me-up when you're getting tired of studying.

Like others have said, he is also very helpful and responsive to questions and gives very detailed answers to your questions.

TL;DR Velocity = Good

I believe #2 pencil is generally preferred to shitting upon the test, but I'm sure you'd nail a few.

But I'll second (or third?) the vote for Velocity. I used Manhattand and PS and a lot of the methodology just didn't click for me. I found myself becoming caught up trying to find a big inference in every LG to break it into a few frames, and before I knew it time was running out and I was in panic mode. Velocity, specifically for LG, has improved my games ability significantly. It's a very mechanical approach, but I love it. Check out some of the free videos on the Velocity homepage to see if it gels for you.

Yeah I've seen 3 or 4 of Dave's videos breaking down some of the 2007 LSAT logic games and I liked how simple it made them seem. Thanks for the input, it seems like no one ever has anything bad to say about Velocity.

I'd PM Dave about that (he has a thread on the front page). I think there is a discount for those re-taking who have used a different class, but I can't say for certain. I've only used self-prep prior, so I think I was out of the running.
