PT38

Hey guys,
I'm just starting my LSAT preparation and had a few questions.
I started with a diagnostic test, I took the test LSAC makes available on their site, went in not knowing much about the LSAT and scored a 169. I just finished PT38 (October 2002) and saw a significant increase in my score (7 points). All I did between the two PT's was look over and analyze the questions I found difficult on the first one, spending extra time on the ones I answered incorrectly.
This leads me to be wary of such an acute increase, feeling as if i was more of a fluke than genuine improvement. Is PT38 notoriously easy? Are any of the PTs known for being relatively easy?
Also, the answer key indicates that question 12 of section 4 was removed from scoring. Is this something that is done often? What leads them to remove a question from scoring?
I'm currently in the second quarter of my freshman year and plan on graduating in the spring of 2014. Would it be unwise to attempt to take the real LSAT either over the summer or in the fall?
I really appreciate any answers you can give me as well as any advice you can give me as to how I should proceed with my preparation
