Somber example that should help you see it:

Jumping in front of a train ensures death.

Which is it:

death --> jumping in front of train
jumping in front of train --> death

Get it?

Necessary because it guarantees something happens.

yep.

just because you are dead does not mean you jumped from a train like in death---> train

but if you jump from a train that means you are dead as in train--->death
