Are PTs 40-49 not worth taking?

Post by notaznguy » Sat Dec 17, 2011 4:47 am

Uh, so I've been reading on the TLS that the 40s are easier and will not be a good indicator of improvement. The problem is, I took about 5 exams from the 50s when I was taking a Testmasters prepcourse. I think I may still have some memory of them in my head. Should I just redo them and skip the 40s altogether?

How inflated are the 40s anyways? Do people score like 5-10 points above what they normally get or something?

40s are good for LG and LR. the LG are just about in the middle of the hard 30s and the easy 50s. The LRs are generally average based on everything. Dunno why you would skip them. Keep in mind that your PT scores are essentially worthless, you are just trying to get good at doing certain problem types in a 35 minute period. LSAC doesnt care if your PT scores are deflated or inflated. Just how you do on test day. And the 40s are good practice.

Agreed. If you have time, do them. You need as much practice as you can get in.

The test has not changed enough to make any of the prior tests useless for studying. Even for question/game types that don't show up anymore, there is substantive value in practicing them.

Agree with the above that they are good practice, but they ARE noticeably easier. I peaked at my PT scores in this batch of PTs (even going as high as 179 twice), which gave me a false sense of confidence until I took the PTs of the late 50s and 60s...

Esp. be careful of LR in these tests, they are easy because if you started to recognize patterns from PT1-38 you could easily go through these LR quite mechanically without strenously thinking (ie less sucker answer choices). The newer tests contain substantially more "sucker" answer choices that are attractive for someone who drilled the earlier tests and were looking for the same type of answers.

Just to throw some insight in here... I scored higher on the tests in the 50's than on the tests in the 30's-40's...

Different people do better on different question types.
