You know...the circular linearity, pattern, mapping, etc.

I heard the Dino one was really difficult, but that wasn't a rare game though right? It was a grouping/in n out hybrid? I'm just worried because I don't know how much time I should spend trying to master the rare games.

The rare mapping games are usually the second game (sometimes 3/4 though) in sections and are thus generally not that difficult so don't worry about it. These games have become increasing more rare in recent times. Put your attention towards the difficult and, what I like to call "hyper-abstract" closed board games which come up in the third or fourth games in a given modern section.

The dino game was one of those types that caused a lot of frustration with diagramming but when analyzed without a strict time constraint/pressure scenario, it's a simple game.

Rare games are, by definition, rare. PT 41 had the last (and to the best of my knowledge, the only) circular game. PT 40 had the last pure map game. The last other rare type (we call them Switch and Mutate, or S&M for short, but others call them other things) was sometime before that. And those were about 8 years ago. So no, you're not likely to see those ever again.

I kind of feel like the mulch game out of PT 60 had some similarities to the old S&M games, but it was just vaguely reminiscent, not the same.

I think its safe to say, rare games rarely appear.
