You're describing the author's method of reasoning here. he's attacking the psychologist's presumably flawed argument. That doesn't mean that the answer choice will be a flawed method of reasoning though.

The tip-off is "by," which suggests how the author mistakenly argues. Or basically, his method of argument.

The author didn't necessarily "mistakenly" argue anything. He could have made a valid argument.
This is a pure method of reasoning question. The answer will describe the argument, flawed or otherwise.
