How would you describe the perfect LSAT study plan. How far in advance should one begin, what books should one purchase, what classes should one take, and other miscellaneous tips. I really need to get a 170 for my top choice school, so how do I go about killing this test?

I don't know how helpful these are: (I don't use it because I have enough time and my own weird schedule) but if you don't already know what works for you then try some based on the number of months you have:

It's hard to tell without a diagnostic score. Some people might be starting from 140 with time issues, whereas others might score 171 on their first test and just need to work on focus and familiarizing themselves with the tricks in the test.

Tagging this, OP question is relevant to my interests as well, my ''quest" is to 180 however. Took Diag cold, before any studying or preparation the other week, scored a 152.

You're going to have to purchase the PTs anyway, so my advice would be to go ahead and purchase the PT 29-38 and the more recent PT book and use one of those as your diag.

If you go to the link Paraflam posted and scroll down near the end there is a free sample June 2007 PrepTest that would be good to serve as a diagnostic.

I’ve heard that you should devote 4 months of intense study to the LSAT (the equivalent of one college semester). This makes sense because the LSAT counts far more than any college semester. Also it will give you enough time to read through your prep books (i recommend powerscore) at least once and take plenty of practice lsat's. If you have school/work to do at the same time i would recommend spending 6 months since you won’t be able to focus 100%
Of course this is also dependent on your diagnostic test.
