Edit: the diagram below doesn't appear correctly when I post it, but here is what it says -
House 1: S/T
House 3: R
House 5: T
House 7: R/S
House 2: ___
House 4: R/T
House 6: S
House 8: T
R, S, T
Rules:
1)
R/R; S/S; T/T/.
2) S/
S
3) House 3 = R
4) House 6 = S
5) R --> RT or TR
Edit: Better diagram
House 1: S/T
House 3: R
House 5: T
House 7: R/S
House 2: ___
House 4: R/T
House 6: S
House 8: T
(the "---" are only so that the diagram can appear correctly on TLS)
S/T----R-----T----R/S
____ ____ ___ ___
1 -----3 ----5 ----7
----- R/T----S------T
___ ___ ____ ____
2-----4 -----6 -----8
Inferences:
If house 3 is R, house 5 must be T. This is because 1) adjacent houses are of different styles, so house 5 CANNOT be R, and 2) no split level house faces another split level house, so house 5 CANNOT be S. Thus, T must be house 5.
This also makes means that house 1 must be either S/T, house 4 must be either R/T and house 7 must be either R/S because adjacent houses are of different styles.
Lastly, house 8 must be T.
Why? Because house 8 cannot be S (for the same reason as stated above); it also cannot be R because this would leave no room for the rule (R --> RT or TR), so it must be T.
Hope this helps.
