Top Law Schools

So I've been studying for the LSAT since March, however I've decided that I'm either not going to go to Law school or go in like 5-6 years. Should I still go ahead and take the LSAT? I'm interested in some grad programs and they all accept the LSAT, but I could always just take the GRE instead.

Obviously it would be a waste of time to take it.

I've been studying so long it seems like it would be a waste of time to switch to studying for the GRE. I dunno, the GRE might be way easier though

I think that if you have studied a ton for the LSAT and not at all for the GRE, and you are prep testing in a higher percentile on the LSAT, then you should definitely take it anyway

Dumb question that I should know, but how long are LSAT scores good for? If they are good for longer than 5-6 years, and you are ready to take it, then take it.

Ive never even looked at the GRE before, a buddy of mine said its easy as fuck compared to the LSAT, but I'm worried about math seeing as how the last math class I took was like 6-7 years ago

They last for 5 years.

I've taken the GRE, and the math is a joke. I would say if you did a some practice problems just as a refresher, you would be fine.

Depends how the LSAT is perceived.

It's easier to get in the 99th percentile on the GRE than the LSAT. A lot of LSAT test takers and TTTT kids are very dumb, but they are smarter than the bone heads banging up 50th percentile scores on the GRE so if the schools you apply to see 95th percentile on the LSAT > 99th percentile on the GRE like they should, I'd say do it.

If not, then no. It's valueless.

The GRE test is being overhauled- and the new test is being administered beginning in August. So if you are going to take the GRE- make sure to take itbefore August. I think you only need a month or so to prep for that test.

The LSAT stays on your record for 5 years. If you are thinking about law school in 6 years- you will have to take the test again.

My LSAT study buddy was studying for both, and I took a practice GRE with him. At this point I was PTing in the high 170s, so I was expecting to crush the verbal and be crushed by the math. Ended up acing the math and getting a 690 verbal. I haven't taken a math class since high school (6 years ago). If you struggle with it, 2 weeks of studying should be overkill to get that perfect. I think a perfect math is only like the 92 %ile because so many people ace it. The verbal isn't hard exactly, but you might have to brush up on analogies and some vocab.

What did you start the LSAT with? If you start at a 1490, a 1600 is relatively easy.

I started at a 161 with mostly LG trouble. But yes, a 1600 does seem relatively easy. My study buddy hasn't taken the LSAT yet, but we PT'd in the same range. He ended up getting an 800 verbal and a lol770 math on his actual GRE. He had a mental block about the math or something. I don't think there's any reason for me to take the GRE at this point though, unless they stay on your record for decades or something.

If you are a strong test taker, it is much easier to distinguish yourself through a strong LSAT score. I'm pretty sure a perfect on the math in the GRE is still only like 90th percentile. So if you can take the LSAT and get 165 or higher, you'll be making yourself stand out more than if you got a perfect on the GRE math.

Back on topic for the OP, the math might actually be easier than the SAT's math. It's definitely not harder.

if you are a confident test taker and have studied a great amount I'd say just take it even if it won't count for anything. It will make you feel like your time wasn't wasted in preparing and will keep your options open if you decide you want to go in four years instead. Also, as two years will have passed it will not count as one of your 3

FYI when i took the LSAT i scored really really high and my percentage scores on teh GRE were...not so high lol it's not necessarily easier for some ppl (i.e. me)
