It is a "which statement would the author be most likely to agree with" question, about Walker's significance in the history of the cakewalk. I chose C, that Walker popularized the dance by choreographing alternative interpretations of it tailored to specific cultural groups, because that is what the entire last paragraph is about. Why is A (she broadened the dance's appeal by highlighting already present elements in the dance) a better answer?

For (A): "emphasizing its fundamental grace" (54); "derived from her distillation of what was widely acclaimed as the most authentic" (60)
Both of those indicate elements of the dance which were already present and which she built on.
More importantly, the passage isn't saying that Walker had different versions of the dance that she performed for different groups (C). It's saying that she incorporated a variety of different demands into her own unique interpretation (note the use of the singular in the passage) that in turn appealed to them all simultaneously.
