Re: June 2011 Study Log
OK, going through the probs I missed on PT 57...
LR1
20 - Weakens Q. TCR D, put B. In retrospect this makes sense and I'm not really sure why I crossed D off...if drivers are more able to maintain control of their cars, then there is an alternate explanation for lower highway accident rates. On the other hand for B, even if 95% of auto accidents happened in lower speeds, the lowering of the speed limit might still have been the one and only reason for the accident rate reduction. :\ wtf self...
24 - Assumptions Q. TCR E, I put D. I was torn between these two answers and ended up sort of guessing...one plus for E is the parallel language to the stim ('believes' 'meaning') and D is wrong because if you negate the statement, the stimulus can still be true, which means it isn't a statement that the stim relies on, whereas the same can't be said for E.
LR2
10 - Flaw in Reasoning Q. TCR C, circled C and crossed it out and put D This one I had a bit of trouble with, I circled it to come back to but didn't have time. IDK why D was so attractive, but I think I just got nervous about C and changed it at the last second. This is pretty frustrating cause C was one of my prephrases and everything, and I was clearly uneasy about putting D down since I circled the Q. WHY DID I CHANGE IT GRRRR )<
RC
3 - Supported by Passage/Inference Q. TCR was D, I put A. I was unsure about this one as well, circled it to come back to but also ran out of time. I had an issue with D saying "speak as members of the public" because I thought that they were allowed to speak, they just didn't have any official sway. But looking back now, line 11 seems to subtly turn that on its head. I wasn't very comfortable with A as an answer, but I def just guessed for this Q. ):

Re: June 2011 Study Log
LOL now who's the nerd???? And it's all peas' fault, she linked an article about why time seems to slow down in near-death experiences in the Scared Shitless thread, and it was all about Dave Eagleman and we started talking about cool shit like how our brains perceive time and she linked me to Eagleman's new book and a bunch of others and I just kept finding cool books online that I wanted to read >_<
PEAS I BLAME YOU!! XD <3

Re: June 2011 Study Log
60 -- 05/25/11 ----- LR: -2/2 ; RC: -2 ; LG: -0 ------------ 96/176
Sooooo. PT 60. XD This is pretty cool cause I think it's the first time I've ever missed less than 3 RC questions in a row. That's gotta be a good sign right??? LR was pretty normal, though it would've been nice to get a -0 in there so I could've gotten tantalizingly close to that 180, but nevertheless I'm still happy with my score. I think I might review the LR Bible this week just to brush up and refresh my memory/brain.
Anyway, review for the test:
LR1 - 12, 20
12. TCR A, I put D. Weakens Q. Okay I think this is a case where my prephrasing really bit me in the ass. I prephrased the answer as "the gov't would have control over the info released, not airlines" and the similarity between that and D "gov't responsible for accurate reporting of info, not airlines" made me pick it without looking too much deeper. Now that I look back, the 2 statements are clearly different, and A ("even incomplete reports are helpful for public") is a much better answer. ):
20. TCR D, I put E. Assumption Q. I was choosing between the 2 in the end, and I ended up choosing E because it seemed to fit the stim closer. D is TCR though because it effectively nullfiies the potential of an alternative solution to the lack of imagination from watching the TV.
LR2 - 17, 22
17. TCR D, I put E. Inference Q. UGHHH this was a hard one for me at the time. Reading back, D is clearly TCR - it's basically a restatement of the phrase "or else at least slowing the growth of disease-causing bacteria" ): I don't know why I didn't see the connection the first time...I must have had a brain fart. E confuses N v S.
22. TCR A, I put C. Assumption Q.OK this one really confuses me, even now. Anyone want to help me? Curry helped me out!!! Thanks Curry!!!
RC - 3, 5
3. TCR D, I put E. X would Agree (Inference) Q. I thought about D but it just doesn't make sense to me. I see that E is wrong because the second half is never addressed in the passage, but how is D TCR? Anyone want to help me out?
5. TCR D, I put B. Weaken X's Stance (Synthesis) Q. Ok this makes sense because D is not something that people can work around--if you can't afford to live there, you can't afford it. B is wrong because even if they lived in small towns v. suburbs, it's still an issue of zoning/urban sprawl/how our nation is planned/mapped out.
