I'm having a hard time differentiating between when they are asking for a complete and accurate list of possibilities based on one hypothetical or multiple. Most questions ask for for where X can go in a variety of situations, but there are questions that ask where are the most spaces X can go based on a single hypothetical.

I remember reading a trick that allows you to determine what there asking for based on where the "could" appears. But I can't find it. Anyone remember this or any other tips that help identifying which list there asking for?

yep. If the could is before the phrase complete and accurate list then it is asking for a list based on a single event. If could is after the phrase complete and accurate list then it asking for a list based on multiple situations. I
