Are RC questions from real sources?

I mean, if for some ungodly reason I had to drop some facts about Jewett, maybe to impress a feminist lit major, would they be valid? It seems like they're pulled from lexis-nexis or something.

My understanding is that the RC passages are based at least in part upon real sources; typically excerpted though possibly changed in some minor ways as well. The danger is the info may be outdated.
One case would be the Siljan Ring RC passage, discussing the abiogenic origin of petroleum. I don't remember what PT it's from, but I want to say it was recent. The thing is, Siljan Ring failed, and the abiogenic theory has generally lost what limited acceptance it had in the scientific community. So if you were trying to impress a geologist, you might get funny looks or worse if you brought up Siljan Ring.
