I just found out I got a 170 on my LSAT. I expected to do better, but it wasn't a complete disappointment. I have a 3.56 and I was looking at NYU, Columbia, Michigan, and UCLA as my top choices.

I'm debating whether to re-take or not. Obviously, I can't get into NYU and Columbia, but I think I still have decent shots at Michigan and UCLA. My average PT was around 171-172, with a low of 168 and a high of 178.

Should I retake?

And if so, how should I study? I already did most of the PTs, except for some in the 30s and early 40s. Anybody with re-take experience have a good study method?

I'm in a very similar boat to you score-wise. Did you feel like you did particularly badly on a section? The real test made me realize that my strategy for the RC section was simply inadequate, and I think i could definitely improve in that section. I chalk it up as first LSAT jitters. I'm going to wait until the .pdfs come in for me to decide if should retake.

with an average of 171ish, I wouldn't retake. If you averaged 175, I would say retake. You will likely get on of MVPD

Do you really think that I have a good chance at Michigan with a 3.56 and 170?

What I was thinking of doing was applying with my 170 to all the schools ranked below NYU, then re-take in December to see if I could get a score good enough for the NY schools. Then I would apply late to just NYU and Columbia, provided I got an LSAT good enough to be a competitive applicant.

That way, I don't leave my apps too late for the likes of Michigan and UCLA, while I still give myself a shot at the NY schools.

Does that sound like a good idea?

im not sure. Call UCLA on monday morning and talk to someone. They will give you a better idea of what to do. I wouldnt worry too much this weekend. a 168 is still a very good score indeed!

I'm fairly confident I can improve by at least 2 points, seeing as how 170 was basically my floor score in my last few PTs.

I think I will retake. But now, my concern is whether or not to send in some of apps (to places like Michigan and UCLA) with my 170, or wait until my retake score is released. Any thoughts?

pick one of those schools and apply with your 170. Save the other for the re take, then apply. Since you are signed up for the december test, the first school wont consider your applicaiton until they have all of the lsat scores, but you will be in the admissions pile early.

I think your 170 will get you in to both schools. If you want re assurance, call them monday morning and explain your situtation.
