Were there really new types of LR questions on PT 61 (Oct.)?

Or just the same kinds we've been seeing for years dressed up in new clothing?

If they are different, please explain what they look like and how they are different from existing types.

I didn't find this test's LR to be any stranger than other tests. It's a blur to me anyway.

They used all the same logic as the old questions but some of the questions were worded very weird. I remember a particular one that compared a chef's meals and bacteria. That one was pretty unique. If they were truly different (it's all a haze now) they could be solved with the same old logic you are used to. Just don't limit your mind to only being able to solve what the LR Bible throws at you and you will be fine. The benefit of having a brain in your head and not a computer is that you can adapt to new situations. Take advantage of that!

I saw one unusual question type, but nothing unprecedented.

+1

To me, the chef and the bacteria was very new. Unlike anything I've seen. It was like analyzing an analogy. I think I saw 2 Q's like that on the exam. But that was in my first LR. My second LR section was routine to me. It coulda been nerves, but I got a bit tripped up by the first LR which was my 1st section.

That's true. I've never seen a question like that before. However, it was cake.

I think you could argue that the chef analogy was sort of new. Just because it wasn't that difficult doesn't make it not new...

nonsense, I was very prepared but still thought that section with the weird questions was experimental because the question stems did seem foreign to me, and I took every practice test from 28-60. But a previous poster was right, the same logic applies if you understand the concept and don't just memorize strategies for particular question types like the prep services would have you do, you could handle it.

I personally think that the Shakespeare one is of a new breed. Never seen anything like that before.

Thats one way of putting it.

And yes, it wasn't due to lack of preparation for me, I was owning LRs, and particularly the ones from tests which set the precedent for those unusual question types. I just straight up assumed it was experimental, and after doing RC and LG faster than ever before, I didn't put everything into the 1st LR. WHen I came back from the break and saw another LG, I got depressed and that hurt my performance on the second LR as well. It wasn't an issue of difficulty, just time(something I usually never have trouble with, always finishing on time and often finishing 3-7 minutes early). Obviously, a large part of it is just test day nerves, but losing that edge ("this is just experimental" or "I'm going to have to retake anyway") can get you easily bogged down. Part of it was also that I took it for granted that I was fast at LR, and I decided to spend longer than usual going over parallel/assumption questions.

Questions were all the same, just varied slightly.

It seems to be anti-testingcompany sentiment among LSAC, so that those who actually have the ability to make the logical conclusions score higher than those who do nothing but memorize.

More freaking power to them I say

Agreed, but the sudden shift can throw us off. The goal should be to make preparation less relavent, not harmful. The other thing is PT59, which just had some really difficult, but not weird, LR questions.
