PENS: Why aren't we allowed to use them on the LSAT?
In doing the practice logic games, I have benefited MUCH from using the 4-color BIC pen (http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=htt ... x=59&ty=78) because I can color-code my drawings and all the various entities that come along with the questions.
Then I read that pens of any sort aren't allowed in the exam room. Why the hell? This is nonsense -- do they think we'll use them as weapons to kill the [often grouchy & aggressive] proctor?

LSAC doesn't want to deal with idiots trying to bubble the scantron with a pen. Test takers don't want to deal with idiots clicking pens constantly.
A pen would help when you have to write that damn certifying statement though.

Pens and mechanical pencils are hollow tubes. If you can bring 20 hollow tubes into the test, you can smuggle out pages from the test, smuggle in scratch paper, smuggle in listening devices or even computers (there are pens now that solve math problems when you write them!).

Also, I've been to a few "spy" markets in China where they actually sell pens containing a small video camera. The quality is surprisingly good. I think this also might explain why LSAC doesn't allow mechanical pencils. Anything that isn't a simple pencil could potentially hide a recording device.
I also once saw an analog "watch" (a fake Rolex) with an in-built video camera, so I'm surprised LSAC lets people bring any kind of watch at all. I almost bought it until I found out it didn't actually keep time.

Highlighters are also hollow tubes. That's how I smuggled out the test and sent it to Hawai'i!!lucaspenick.com wrote:Pens and mechanical pencils are hollow tubes. True enough, I've wondered that LSAC allows highlighters at all. However, you are only allowed one, according to the instructions.

Because test takers would inevitably repeatedly click their pens.
