On a side note... 5 hour energy drink

I was skeptical, but to my surprise, it worked as expected. I chose the extra-strength version, taking it right before going into the testing room. While waiting for everyone to check in, I started to feel this sense of alertness combined with a feeling of disorientation. However, after beginning the first section and getting through the first 4-5 questions the disorientation subsided. I was able to stay alert, and experienced very minimal mental fatigue throughout the test. I actually went on to write the entire 35 minutes on the writing sample which was unplanned and unprecedented on my part. My cognition is usually roasted by the time I reach the writing sample.

Just thought I would share that experience. I know some people really struggle with nerves on test day, which in turn, increases the amount of mental stress and fatigue not experienced in ordinary 5 section PTs.

If anything people who struggle with nerves and are very anxious would do themselves more harm by taking any kind of strimulant (as that pushes your brain into fight or flight state- and therefore you are not understanding and performing to your fullest potential)

Stuff like 5hour energy, coffee, and other stimulants do help me too though. Because im the kind of person that has less trouble with nerves and more of a problem with focus.

Might as well have done speed.

I took one at 8 am. I was a little over pumped for the first section but literally finished 12 min early and went back and checked all the answers I wasn't 100% on. It's kinda hard to say weather it helped beyond that but I wasn't feeling any test fatigue but I didn't take breaks in the PTs so idk if it was the 5 hour energy or not. After the first section I calmed down but still pretty alert.

I didn't have much time and could not go to Starbucks, which wakes me up really well. I had 5 hour energy with me and I think that it was better than if I drank coffee, which usually makes me have to pee. It kept me up, but didn't give me the 'zing' that starbucks gives me, but better than having to use the bathroom i guess.

I only got 2 hours of sleep before the LSAT, and after having a nightmare about failing the test, I bought a 7-hour Energy before I went into the test center. I thought of drinking it, maybe just half, but I'd never taken one before and was afraid of experimenting on test day. Thankfully, adrenaline carried me through and I didn't feel groggy or anything.

So I guess you're saving the DMAA, ephedrine, and adderall for law school.

10 g of Piracetam, 10 g of Choline Citrate and 360 mg of Ginkgo Biloba by the break. Suck on that.

Needless to say, with that high of an amount I could hear people thinking...

I wanted coffee, but I did that last time, and I felt that it made me too dehydrated. I had a Coke with a large breakfast in the morning and brought chocolate bars to the test. Also went to sleep at around 9:30. A large part of my test prep for this time around (I also wrote in June 2010) was just sleeping and eating better. I think I lost a good 4-5 points last time from being tired, hungry, and stressed. Little things like this really do matter.

Quarter tab of ritalin right before we put our stuff under our chairs before the test, and another quarter tab at the end of break. Not enough to feel, but kept me going.

I got used to it. I took it for about 2 months and I let it build up in my system. The first time I took a high dosage Im pretty sure I almost died. Ha!
It works wonders though. You feel locked in and positive. Could be a placebo effect, but whatever.

hmm, isn't 5 hour energy mostly a placebo effect?

i should have done some adderall or ritalin before but wasnt sure how it would affect me in a standardized test environment...have used it for writing papers before

NO. Trust me. Unless you took it before and knew what it would be like under testing conditions. It might have helped you but it could have drastically hurt you as well. That stuff can make you linger too much on questions and be overconfident. (can being a key word)

There are many threads on here that discuss this. The general consensus is DO NOT TAKE IT. Its not a magic pill that will make you smarter. Your performance on the test ultimately comes down to you, not a pill.

I took some "nootropics", but I coudlve done fine without them.

Well it's got caffeine, so no. B vitamins are supposed to give you energy, but I never noticed the effects past a short surge in adrenaline during the niacin flush.

I've started taking a caffeine pill, bronkaid, and aspirin three times a day and that seems to keep me humming along nicely.
