Why isn't it D?

My reasoning was that since we can eliminate periodontitis by fixing the problem the genetic mutation people have, that means that the people without the genetic mutation doesn't get periodontitis.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding 'eliminate' in the sentence. Maybe it's supposed to mean that we will be able to eliminate periodontitis in people with the genetic mutation?

With D, it is entirely possible that individuals who already have periodontitis will continue to suffer from it (basically what E says will not happen). Therefore, periodontitis will not necessarily be eliminated as a result of this new process.
