need advice for lsat.prep, paralegal or degree b4 law school

Post by adam.123 » Tue Sep 21, 2010 9:29 pm

First of all, I would like to thank everyone who contribute on this site.
I Would like some advice on prepping for LSAT. A little bit of my background, I went to high school outside US. Although it was British colony, English was language of instruction at my high school. I did not really care about reading books or anything academic. Read Only what was required for reading material. Came to USA 4 years ago for undergrad degree. graduate last year with BS in business-finance. My LSDAS gpa from lsac is 3.45.
Started reading lsat logic reasoning section, my head spins, and very confusing. do not think can finish one section in 40-50mins. takes me like 8-10 minutes to fully understand what is being said. Currenlty getting only 13 right per section in LR.
What will you recommend? Does English being my 3rd will affect me, OR Is everyone one(native) has same difficulty in reading those LR section?
Also, how hard/easy for me to get around 155-160 range? Does reading economic, scientific America everyday make huge improvement?
Would you recommend getting Paralegal certificate, some law school have paralegal program for people with BA or BS undergrad degree. Would this help me to get in LSAT-law school mood thing? OR should i just focus on LSAT Study only. Any recommendation, suggestion is highly appreciated!

Always know what your goals are.

Are you trying to get into a specific law school or range of law schools? Or are we discussing just maximizing LSAT score? At the moment, if you are serious about law school, it is simpler to maximize score. Getting a paralegal certificate does not help this directly. There is no need for a law school "mood." Just do very well on the LSAT.

155-160 should be definitely possible for you. Reading dense English articles definitely helps for long term improvement in reading comprehension (RC) and logical reasoning (LR). However, this is something that should be done at least 6 months before an LSAT. Don't start that 2 months before.

Browse the rest of TLS Forum to determine if a regime of self-study will be better or enrolling in a prep course is better for you. In the end it's about establishing a system to increase accuracy under time restraints. If you can build that on your own, it's probably cheaper but if you think a standardized prep course can help then do that.

Thanks tourdeforcex for your response!
I will be happy getting in top 30-40. I did look at their stats, looks like my gpa falls between in most school rankes on #20. At worst, I think i will be happy also with top 50 range school.

So, reading dense material is long term strategy, ok. So, for short term, your are saying I will be better focusing on lsat prep material. So, doing all 60 past lsat comprehension will be enough?
