A retake? Would you retake even if you are probably only going to improve 3 or 4 points? Basically, does every point count, or does a retake with only 1 or 2 points improvement look bad?

If the 1-2 point improvement turns you into 170 or higher, do it. Otherwise a 3 point improvement warrants a retake.

We can provide better advice if you tell us...

1. Your original score
2. Your GPA
3. How much you had prepared the first time you tested
4. How well you are PTing now
5. Whether you are considering retesting in October or December

You weren't well prepared the first time. If the 174-177 is consistent over a good number of tests, then you should retest. Last year a 174 / ~3.3 had a shot at Chicago. Apart from that possibility, a higher score would prob give you one of MVP instead of DNCGV.

just read a post where a bunch of people mentioned scoring <150 on their first diagnostic and ended up with awesome LSAT scores. makes me feel like a slacker! i got a 165 on my first diagnostic. i should be able to get a 180, right? hah.
